Default a duo of errors (dvd and HD)

well, after switching my PC components from my old case to an NZXT case, my hard drive decided to run a chkdsk on me while it was booting up. no problem, it was quick...except it found errors. im pretty sure it deleted the file USP10.dll (that tells your system how to recognize a CD/DVD drive) in the process. not a big deal, right, just download the DLL file and throw it in system32? i think not, because now i have a Cyclic Redundancy Check error.
my only question is this: WTF?

The UPS final isn't part of the driver is it? I'm also guessing the drive isnt accesible during safemode?

bad HD sectors were fixed by CheckDisk.... yay, i dont have to drop 60 bucks for a new HD (i would have gotten a decent one with at least 16mb cache)
now maybe i can spend that money on a zalman 9700...
