Default Program USB Key question?

I have a program that requires a USB key to operate it. Is there a way to get around something like this?

Note: when the key is plugged in it does not show up on the computer.

I do not want to do anything illegal. I just want to operate the program at home and at work without risking losing the $4,000 USB drive in the commute. That is not illegal because I have already paid for the key and the program and both will not be running at the same time. I have thought about using a program called USB Hacksaw. But that is a scary program to use. Does any one have any other Ideas?

There is no legal way to do this without purchasing another USB key, unless the software manufacturer offers some kind of alternative.
