NOOOOOOO

Aziek just said in a confusing way.

The AMD Phenoms are definetely quad core. The before mention 'tri core' is what AMD is coming out with soon (they already have it???). IDK about it being better or anything but it maybe. If i were u, i wouldnt buy one just yet. There might be a price drop coming when the TRI cores are released.

Any help?

it is rumored that the tri cores are just quad cores with a defective core. the phenoms are definitely not bad CPUs, but as the OP said, you get more for your money with intel. if you like AMD and dont mind spending the money then go for it, but if you want a good price/performance ratio with AMD, stick with the lower end dual cores.

You might as well switch to Intel.

AMD processors are not as good performance/price as Intel.

I was an AMD fan myself, but the transition was successful!!

Ok-I got a question about this type of thing too-I'm going to build a new system this summer-I know what motherboard I'm getting-http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813128081
Should I get a quad core phenom or the 6400 x2 for it-I'm not a huge gamer-but I want this system to be good for about 4 years before I need to upgrade the cpu.

You might as well get the quad core as it is not a whole lot more. The Phenom 9850 black edition is only $235 and the X2 6400+ is $163 on Tiger. So $70 more and you could get the quad!

That board doesnt support the 9850, but it does support all the Phenoms up to 9750.
