Default NEWB needs help to format oem harddrive

Like title says.

went to install my OS (vista 32) cannot find a harddrive to install it to.

I am using a segate hd OEM
(http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16822148139)

This is the one thing i really do not know how to do.

Little help?

are you sure the jumpers are correct? and that it is pluged in correctly?

Is the HDD Sata or IDE ? Go into BIOs and disable Raid. Most boards that I Have seen have Raid as default, which will not see a single HDD.

ide ... at least i think so ..im using the big blue ribbon.

where in the bios would i change that raid?

Also, i've been reading alot about fdisk.exe..since i have an oem hdd i did not get the software but i downloaded the disc wizard from seagates website but was unable to get it to boot from an usb..should i try it on a floopy?

btw....i changed the jumper pins and it is still showing up under the channel 4 master...

i was told i should be under channel 0 if that helps.

ended up being a defective hdd.

got a new one works perfectly
