I voted everything except eMachines. We've had bad experiences with two of 'em.

Isn't Compaq/HP one company now?

HP acquired Compaq however they are still sold under separate names.
But as to the poll, most of those brands aren't very good. Basically low-end systems. But it does depends on weather their desktops or laptops. I think that Dell would be a much better if you had to go with a prebuilt. They have some really nice deals going on right now. But I would almost always build one myself for a desktop.

Well, Compaq totally sucks monkey balls.
Gateway is really good. I've never had any issues with them - I've owned two of their PC's (Gateway 2000 & Gateway E-4100) I've heard good reviews on Acer and HP, but have never personally used or owned one. eMachines offer some pretty good builds (speed and capacity wise) for the money, but I don't like their cheap parts.

In 2000, I got a Hewlett Packard 7810(UK), it was in main use 24/7 till July 2005 (with the odd shut off, when we moved to the USA), and to put it short, its still in use today. The only thing which failed was the HDD. It was also upgraded to 512MB RAM in 2000. Everything else is what it came with, even 8 year old, cables. It is such a fantastic PC, I wish build qualities of brand new PCs were the same
