Default Is it safe...now?

Let me summarize my situation, so bear with me plz
  • My x-fi sound card started cracking up whenever i did anything that took alot of movement from the hdd
  • I switched to onboard, and it did the same thing. It was just wasnt as enough
  • i reformatted twice and the problem was neevr fixed.
  • I switched out my seagate 40gb OEM hdd with a Maxtor 160gb retailed
  • Now, i reformatted, reinstalled.
  • my onboard sound is crystal clear perfect now!
  • Is it safe to try my sound card?

that's basically what i'm trying to know here. My sound card worked fine in my dads comp, not mine. I'm thinking it was an HDD problem. Does that make sense? The sound crackled whenever opening a program or even playing music off my external drive. I wanna get my card back in so....is it safe?

thnx.

If switching out the HD fixed it, it coulda been a cable (power/data) located in a" wrong place", causing this distortion. If the HD seemed to work fine, I'd probably try it again (maybe on another comp, just to make sure), because I don't like the idea of wasting possibly working HDs...

...as for the x-fi, you should be fine installing that thing.

I was thinking about it. I even turned off my comp and stuff, but will my front audio ports work if i have the x-fi card installed. i've never tried it. So i decided against it for now.

Will the FRONT mic/headphone ports work if i have my x-fi sound card installed in a pci slot???

Of course they'll work - you might need a cable from the card to the front outputs, though.

Cable??? The only OTHER port on the card is

It doesnt look anything like the audio connectors that plug into my mobo for the FRONT IO panel onboard sound. If it's not possible, i might just use the sound card anyways. I have the 2.1 x-240 that have the headphone jacks in the remote so its no biggy!
