Default need advice on harddrive proformance

ok basicly, i like games but recently the frame rates have been dropping, although nothing has changed, ive run defrags, checked for malware, error checked, etc etc... and found nothing. my system is a geforce 8600gt, 2.13 duo core ghz proc, 2 gig ram i bought them all last year, belive me it was a massive upgrade from my old comp. the only thing i did not upgrade is my HD. its about 3-4 years old cant really remeber. its a measly 60gb. ive just orderd a 500gb hd with 16mb chsh 7600rpm SATA samsung spinpoint its called i belive, it will be here on monday.

I used to be able to run dark messiah, command and conquer 3, counterstrike all on max everything gettin about 30-40 fps, now i get about 10. will the new hard drive help? although i need a new one anyway, will this make any differance or am i looking in the wrong place? Also i have another question. I want to mirror my entire had drive to this new one, so basicly ill be able to unplug this HD and this new one will be as if i have only made the HD bigger. not changed anything. is this possible? and what program should i use?

Thx for any info
