Slow system?

Is there some kind of (free) programme that can check my system? Things seem to be running a lot slower than they used to. I get sticky pages when they load and quite slow loading times. Also my cd's will not autoplay when I put a cd in. I have gone into the settings and it says it is set on autoplay. What can I do??
