I really don't want to buy an overexpensive wireless adapter for my 360. So here's what I'm wondering. I have a laptop in my room where my 360 would also be located. My laptop is connected to our wireless network in the house.
Can I possibly hook the ethernet cable to my laptop and voila? And if it is possible, could somebody please give me the steps to make it happen ?

Yes it is possible
You'll Need a Crossover Cable, Your Laptop has a Wired Ethernet port right? & XP or Vista?

what u will need to do is view ur network connections, click on ur ethernet one and either bridge it with ur wireless, thats if ur wireless supports that or u can enable ICS (internet Connection Sharing) i believe that there may be an actual tutorial for this on the xbox site

What you can do is buy This wireless router and flash it with This Firmware and you have just created a wireless adapter for 1/2 the cost. then just plug it into your ethernet port on your 360 and it'll free up your laptop.

I have done this before without a crossover cable.
For some reason, I remember reading something about the 360 not needing a crossover cable, but I really don't remember. Just plug it in, go to the properties for the ethernet port, then there is an option that says something like "allow other devices to access internet using this port" or something along those lines. Just select that option, and you should be good to go.
