Hi
I have, in one of my countless attempts to make my computer work proberly, installed an update for my BIOS. It went very well; I downloaded it from my motherboard manufacturers website. Then when I opened it, it just installed itself. Then it told me to restart the computer, and I did. But when the computer starts again, this is written in white with a black background: "BIOS ROM checksum error Detecting IDE ATAPI device ... Found CDROM, try to Boot from it ... Fail Detecting floppy drive A media ... INSERT SYSTEM DISK AND PRESS ENTER" But the problem is.. I don't have any "system disk" !!! (It didn't come with the computer, when I bought it) What do I have to do, to make that @#!¤$&€ computer work? ![]() |

Have you tried reset your bios to defaults.

go back into the bios. during the boot it will tell ya which key to hit.
there will be options for reset to defaults. its been talked about before. bios update. im curious as to what the update was for. always read about the update. if it does not do nothing for ya then don't do it. its risky business. |

Well the whole problem is, that I can't get past this screen:
"BIOS ROM checksum error Detecting IDE ATAPI device ... Found CDROM, try to Boot from it ... Fail Detecting floppy drive A media ... INSERT SYSTEM DISK AND PRESS ENTER" I even tried downloading a copy of the vista recovery disc, but that didn't work either... |

If your looking for another option i would goto the manufacture and query support or call. I would think the manufacture would have a boot utility that could perform a checksum error on the bios. i think this would be the best bet now. see what they say. Get your motherboard information and know which flash ver and release ya did.

If you cant find the reset jumper. Just remove the motherboard battery for a few minutes. That is with the computer off and unplugged.

one of the things that can go wrong during a flash. besides writing a bad bit would be an endless loop during the boot process. if this is the case i would say the eprom would rendered useless. good luck.......i hope it works.
Actually, i suspect he would be able to fix in the bios as i mentioned above. I haven't flashed to many motherboards. My experience has been with smart cards. Last edited by tremmor; 05-12-2008 at 11:16 PM. |

Theres a chance he got a bad flash, if so and the bios chip is unremoveable he is kinda stuck unless the board has some type of bios recovery
