Default Internet on and off

Hello,

I have Window XP Service Pack 2, and somehow lately, the internet connection have been going on and off. The enet light of my modem does not light up at all, then after a while it blinks. I been having problem with this, especially because of the large amount of time that I have use the internet for my computer.

I am suspecting that this might be a virus. Any suggestions or fixes?

It could be virus but it could most likely be something on your network. Maybe your NIC is going bad.

O Sorry for some of the mistakes I made on the infos. It was the act light that was not light up.

Right now it does not goes on and off, but fast and slow. My computer is link to a router, which links to a modem in my brother's room. I tried virus scan, but I was not very patient with it after one scan because it said it need another full scan. I think it is the router's problem. Anyway, should I just reboot it or is there anyway to fix it?
