Default XP SP3 downloaded and wont be load past splash screen.

So I get a call from my brother at midnight last night because he's furious that after leaving earlier while his computer was doing updates he came back to find it stuck on the splash screen. I had him do a hard shutdown and boot into safe mode so we could do a system restore. He told me that his windows live one care had a yellow warning on it yesterday and said he needed to download updates from microsoft. So he tried to use one care to get to the download page but it wouldnt let him, so he logged onto the microsoft website and did it that way and sure enough, it was SP3 that it said he needed to download.

Anyone else investigate this or try to download it yet?

Default

I had it on briefly a few days ago and had zero issues with it (though it did take an exceptionally long time to DL/install even though the Update screen showed zero progress), but did an unrelated stupid newbie mistake (don't ask - it was bad) and blew out one of my hardware components. After getting a new one and reinstalling, I've yet to put SP3 back on. I think I'll wait for a bit to see about any bugs.
