Default Any way of telling?

Hey,

My mate just gave me a stick of 256mb of PC100 Ram and was going to install in old pc but not sure ifthis is still operationally as is their any way of telling if the ram has been shortened out? As dont want to install and find out that it was faulty and if so, would this ruin the motherboard.

Just plug it in, you can test RAM once it is installed. If it is faulty the system wont work.
