Default Tech reviews:new section?

Hey guys i think that adding a new section added to the forum called "Tech reviews" or something along those lines would be great dont you think?
i mean alot of us buy new the latest gadgets, and pc hardware so we could review them in there after purchasing them and give them a score out of 10.

do you think this would be a good idea? im hoping Ian will look at this post

that is a really good idea. maybe a sticky that has collaborative reviews, and then an average score for a certain product?

hey, Ian or whoever does these kinds of things, if your skeptical about giving us a reviews section, could we do a trial thing, with super-strict regulations on how we test the equipment? i think making upgrades would be so much easier if we had this.

This is a forum, not a blog. Also, who is to say the review will be credible or right, is someone going to fact check?

Too much overhead I think for the mods and admins, they already have enough to deal with.

there are project in the pipeline which are not too dissimilar to this suggestion, but the site must reach a certain level of critical mass before this plan is operable. Its close but not quite there.
The administrative burden of such a project should not be overlooked and is something that we will be looking to address.

you say this is a forum not a blog...so when new members come in the forum and say "Is this gfx card any good?" your going to say

i dont think so and too much overhead for the mods? its one section added to the forum.

damn if the mods were struggling that much the admins here could always promote one of you Vips to mod just that one section.

Simple.....

No, you don't get what I am saying....

This is a forum, a message board, where discussion happens, so yeah, if someone were to post a thread on a certain video card and people discussed it, that would be normal behavior of a forum.

Now, when you get into reviews there are several things that make a leap over it being a message board. Credibility, writing skills, real world versus benchmarks, actually knowing what you are talking about.

I have been interviewed by CIO magazine for deployments I did at my work with dual booting Macs, shell scripts, imaging, print servers, etc etc. The person who interviewed me for her article talked with me over the phone for like 45 minutes, and maybe quoted me once or twice through the whole article and then got a lot of things wrong, and got several technologies mixed up. Her editor did not catch that, and that was their bad.

There is a lot of over head to make it credible, and it is hard work to fact check and to make sure everything is right and legal too.

If the admins and mods want to do so, then that is totally up to them by all means and i have nothing against it. It just isn't that easy, and you definitely don't want to be a laughing stock or be known to print misinformation.

thats why i say we limit it. people with a certain amount of posts, stringent guidelines, its not like we are a review site, but we dont have to be to post personal reviews and opinions on something. then we merge all the reviews that followed the guidelines into one summary, so one person that was biased or posted untrue information would be in the minority.

That is kind of why I noted the blog thing. Some PHP bulletin boards allow for users to have their own blog, which can be viewed through their profile. That I think would be a place to put it, and then that specific person who posted the blog would be solely responsible for what they post.

That would also take some of the work load off the admins/mods
