Default HP Laptop Screen lite out.

Please tell me the screen bulb is bad.

I can see the colors on the screen and with a flashlite I can see everything works except the thing that lights up the screen.

I connected a monitor to the laptop and I can change the configuration to use the monitor and the external monitor picture works fine, I can also connect a S-Video cable to the laptop to a TV set and the picture works also.

What does not work is the backlight for the LCD screen, so since the other 2 options works great, doesn't mean the LCD bulb is bad?

If yes, how the heck do I get it out, I found a bulb on EBAY, I just don't know how to change it.

It's a HP Pavillion zt1195, thanks

I doubt the backlight "lights" are bad. Usually when this happens, it's either a short in the wires or a failed inverter.

+1

You can usually find inverters and bulbs on Ebay for anywhere from $1-20.

If it's a bad inverter, could I still see the screen with colors with a flashlight?

too, you have been dubble posting for a while, save that trigger finger for COD

but i agree with the other one, however one other thing to look for it the switch that tells if the monitor is open or closed could be jamed. you can just open the moniter by removing the rubber protectors on the side and unscrew the screws and pop it off and look inside. eather way it should not be a hard fix...

yes, the inverter just bumps up the voltage just for the lamp. the lamp and lcd are two different parts. (aka it is easly to replace the lamp if needed)

Is the inverter inside the screen or top of the case or is it in the bottom or keypad area?

I believe you just need to remove the frame from the LCD and it's on the bottom.
