Default need lots of help

i have a dell inspiron 1000 and it will not boot past the splash screen. when i try to hit f2 or f12 it says entering setup or boot menu but will not go further. i was told to try and let the computer force boot to cd but the comp will freeze on the splash screen. i also was told to flush the bios. if anyone cn tell me how to flush the bios or any other ideas please help

go to dell download the bios update off another pc put it on a floppy and reflash the bios

it is a laptop i do not have a floppy drive can i use a flash drive and how do you reflash the bios

get a USB drive and use that. that waht i did, u gotta set it to boot off ur usb, i eblive 1st u gotta get it to detect it then restart the computer then try update, but 1st u gotta formatt the usb and put the file on it... i found a really good instutrction page i'lls ee if i cant find it

u could use the flashdrive and u could also use a cd
