I am planning to get the GA-P35-DS3L motherboard. I already know that Video cards that use PCI-E 2.0 (such as the 8800GT) can still be used on PCI-E motherboards. My question is how much would the performance of a 8800GT be hindered since the a PCI-E 2.0 card would be using a PCI-E slot? Would there be any decreased performance at all? I'm sure no one can give me an exact value, but I'd just like your opinion if it would only decrease by a little, a fair amount, a lot, or none at all.
How do you think a 9800GX2 or 9800GTX would be affected by a PCI-E slot? If I hear a lot of people saying the performance level would be hindered a fair amount or a lot, I might consider getting a new motherboard with a PCI-E 2.0 on it. I plan to buy a 8800GT soon and after the prices of a 9800GX2 or a 9800GTX goes way down, I'll probably buy that as well.
