How necessary is it to have two drives? Should I look at getting one CD / DVD Drive and one CD / DVD Burner?
I think I would be fine with just the burner, but who knows. Maybe someone has an instance where it saved them to have more than one.

Having 2 drives is never necessary, thanks to the event of ISO images. However, if you want to copy discs directly from one [reader] drive to another [writer] drive, then it could save time and effort.

Ok, I know the difference of the two when it comes to operating systems, but is there a big difference when it comes to CD-Roms and Burners?

I also find it useful if your running a Linux LiveCD and need another CD. You cannot remove the LiveCD from the drive while running Linux, and a second drive helps with that.

I would and do recommend more than one. I have three. if your getting two then make them both burners. lots of software supports burning more than one at a time. I recently purchased a duplicator with 5 burners and one reader.
