Default Intel Core 2 Quad

I am thinking of getting the Intel Core 2 Quad. I do mainly video, word processing, and internet, and some games.

My question is can I install TWO of these chips?

If you take a multiple socket servermotherboard you would indeed have this possibility, though you'd only be able to run the QX9775 (or is it just Q ?) or Xeon Quad cores because of the 771 socket instead of the 775 socket (which are Intels as well only then more for Servers).

And to add to that, I doubt it if you will see the difference but I'm not sure. I don't know how Final Cut uses multiple cores or photoshop for that matter.

the main problem with server mobo if that what u were gonna do is that they take awhile to boot up b/c they are made to be turned on and left on, and that is not very engery effenecht for a normal user

Default Thanks

Thanks everyone. The server motherboards are rather expensive, and I don't think it is economical to buy them.

Anyway I'm just going to go with a singe CPU. I am thinking of the Intel Core 2 Quad Q9450, 1333mhz, 2.66 ghz.

I found the an Asus motherboard for it - the P5E3 - see link below

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813131276

The problem is that Asus has taken it off of its site, which cannot be a good sign. The reviews also say this. Should I go with another motherboard?

How do I know if a motherboard is compatible with GeForce 8800GT or GTS and whether it will operate in SLI mode?

Also what are the PCI x 1 slots and the PCI x 16 slots for? Some motherboards have three x 16 slots but no x1 slots, and some have 2 of each. What is better?

Sorry for all the questions. I am a newbie at building my own computer.

P.S.

I will also post this question in a new thread.

PCI-e x16 is for videocards and such, if you have two then you can run an SLI or CrossFire setup (two graphic cards; depending on the motherboard/cards).

If it has an Nvidia Chipset (680i/750i/780i) it will do SLI, if it's an Intel chipsets with atleast two PCI-e slots (preferably x16 ones) it will do CrossFire.

Though I'd advise to take a Q6600 or Q6700 and overclock it (q6600 only, Q6700 doesn't need overclocking to keep up with the Q9450) a bit, Q9450 is overpriced.

Though that P5E3 is only capable of running DDR3 memory, which is more expensive then DDR2 though it's better (but not all that much is you ask me). And it's an Intel chipset so it won't run SLI but only CF.

Thanks Timo. I've done some additional research. I'm going to get the Radeon video cards for crosswire. I'm getting the Asus Maximus Extreme X38 motherboard, and probably the Q9450 (want 1333 bus).

Thanks for your help.

CrossFire

And you can get the 1333 Quadpumped bus with the Q6600 as well, just put the FSB on 333 and it will run a 1333 Bus. And the Processor itself will then run just under 3Ghz (2997Mhz --> 2.997Ghz)... Cool èh ^^

Or if you put the multiplier at 8 it will run 8 * 333 and then it will do a 1333 Bus as well as running 2.66Ghz Or if you up the FSB to 350 it will be running a 1400Mhz Bus and the processor will run 2.8Ghz... That might be a nicer overclock, less hot but fast.
