Default Vista Freezes

I've recognized my laptop freezing over the past few days. It did it first a couple days ago when I was loading files onto a DVD, I thought nothing of it because I was in a hurry and loading things at a fast rate. But then earlier today I had another freeze up for no reason, while watching a National Geographic video clip, I restarted and the same thing happened again while just sitting at my desktop. Perhaps foul play is at hand, such as a virus? What do you all think?
