Default vista and ram

i have 32 bit vista, i have 4 gb of ram, my first boot i had 3.18 gigs of ram, about 3 hours later (after i updated drivers and vista) i had 3.014 gigs, now im at 2.814 gigs...

did programs i download take ram? or something like that? just not sure where my ram was going lol, can any one explain that?

this happened to one of my friends proreties showd him 1.7 gb ram and system information 2.00 gb ram
just type msinfo32 in the searchbox
this tool should tell u the exact ram

That is perfectly normal. 1st a 32-bit OS can only address( use ) about 3gb to 3,5gb of ram (3,5 is best case scenario) MINUS ! the amount used for addresing drivers. So as long as you only have a 32 bit os you wont be able to use more then about 3 gb of ram. The 32bit is used to address ram and I/O devices. That means as more devices you have inside your pc, the less ram your OS is able to address. hope you understand
