Default New Processor

I have been having some problems with my old Pentium 4 processor and i am thinking of upgrading. I play a lot of games like Age of Empires 3 and i need to know what would be the best processor for those types of games that isn't too expensive.

Upgrade your whole computer or just the processor. If just the processor we need to know the motherboard make and model.

I only want to upgrade the processor. My motherboard is a Foxconn 661fx7mf/648fx7mf/648c7mf series.

Socket 775.

To the OP, what problems are you having exactly? If just a slow system, you may be able to run some diagnostic tools or do a fresh OS install to regain all the lost speed. If you just want a faster CPU, what is the P4 model number you have now? Their clock speeds ranged across +/-2.6 Ghz from low-end to high.

Honestly, and this is solely my personal preference, I would not use a dual-core with that Board, instead sticking with a faster P4 or a P4 w/ HT. Looking at the specs of the Board, if you want a dual-core CPU, you'd see a much better bang for the buck (not to mention upgradability) with a newer Board.
