Default Vista laptop won't get out of safe mode

My HP laptop with Vista keeps automatically starting in safe mode. I've uninstalled all the recently added programs, run AVG, Threatfire, and Spybot, and Windows system restore and it still won't start normally. Any ideas?

use your recovery disk and reformat the whole thing thats if u want to reformat

I'd rather not, but I guess I have to. I've tried everything else.
