Default Problem: PC shuts down suddenly by itself

Hello all!

Several weeks ago my computer had viruses. The tech guy fixed it, but since then my computer has shut down about 7-8 times by itself unexpectedly. It just shuts down completely in a moment, sometimes when I'm doing important work, and so I lose my unsaved document. The last few days this has happened every day, one time a day. It happened a few mintues ago too.

Can anyone offer help in fixing this problem? My tech guy said he didn't know why this happens.

Thank you very much,
Skeman

hi,
i've got vista ultimate too

1.make sure you have no viruses try scaning with several antiviruses and online scaners
2.i think your RAM and processor are too slow for vista to work good you need aty least 1gb ram
3.if it shuts down in a moment, no blue screen, or sth else it could be a hardware problem reinstall vista ultimate and see what happens

i have xp, but the exact same thing just started happening to my computer. it shuts down as if the power just went out. just because you have a bunch of viruses doesn't mean they're related to the shutdown. at first i assumed it was just my power supply, so i replaced it. didn't help, then i noticed my lone case fan was dead, so i swapped my processor out with my friends and it still continued. so now it's down to either the motherboard or ram.

bottom line, there's a good chance it's hardware related.

You know what's funny? You have the same first and last name as my little brother.

You know what's even funnier? Everything you said doesn't make Vista shut down.

1. Viruses crash and delete files...
2. You will only have a realllllyyy slow computer if you're low on RAM.
3. If it's a hardware problem, you can't use software to fix it.

Saying that reinstalling Vista can fix a hardware problem is like saying reinstalling nVidia drivers can fix a dead video card.

Post up your computer and power supply information, but first, download PC Wizard 2008 or go to CMOS/BIOS and look at your CPU/Core temperatures.
