i posted a thread about this before but the error number seems to have changed and i still cant find anything about it. i go to install xp over again, ive had vista installed for over a week now not that i wanted it to be. i had xp installed on here just fine before that. i put in the xp cd and it asks where i want to install xp at, i cant chose anything so im assuming its a harddrive problem, i push enter anyways and it pops up this screen, for lack of a picture im just going to type everything it says out so you guys see what im seeing.
A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer. The problem seems to be caused by the following file: setupdd.sys PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA If this is the first time you've seen this stop error screen, restart your computer. If this screen appears again, follow these steps: Check to make sure any new hardware or software is properly installed. If this is a new installation, ask your hardware or software manufacturer for any windows updates you might need. If problems continue, disable or remove any newly installed hardware or software. Disable BIOS memory options such as caching or shadowing. If you need to use Safe Mode to remove or disable components, restart your computer, press F8 to select Advanced Startup Options, and then Select Safe Mode. When you say you can't choose a location to install to, what do you mean by that? If you still have Vista installed you need to delete existing partitions and repartition and then install XP. its also possible that you need the sata driver to see the hard drive, if its a sata hard drive.

well, there are no partitions installed, is just one 250 gb hard drive. ive heard that i need to install drivers for the hard drive, the motherboard, and a couple other things. im not really sure which one is the culprit, or if its any of those things. but im pretty sure that you have to have a floppy drive installed to install any of those drivers and i dont have one :-\

how did you get xp installed on it the first time? According to emachines website, that computer was preinstalled with vista.

You might want to do a memory test using MEMTEST. That error could also represent driver issue. But like I said before you MUST delete any existing partitions before you can install XP.
