Hey, i found this old computer running windows XP, pentium 3, 512 MB RAM and a 40 GB HD, but my problem is everything is password protected accept a lousy guest account in which i cant do very much. i tried booting in safe mode and loging in as the administrator but it too is password protected. so my question is this, is there any way i can gain access to administrator rights or any of the accounts? or am i outa luck, and if i cant, can i just format the HD and install a new OS? or try and restor the computer to a later date? is any of this possible without admin rights? any suggests would be great. thx.

hihi , yeah why not just format... you probably want to see the data eh ? lol, there are various utilities online such as bootdisks that can help you achieve this but then again just re-install XP, less hassle !!

Here is a free program that you can download and burn to a boot up CD.

I used to use this tool a lot at an old job. I don't remember if you need to pay for it or not but its really good.

Install the new operating system on the XP partition. This will wipe XP and give you access to the new OS.

You don't use accounts when reinstalling an OS, so your account privileges are unimportant.
