Ipod Charger

ipod 15 gig, my friend give me his ipod do u have to have a apple or a 2.0 usb to charge from computer, or is the 1.1 usb on a windows xp computer good enough

15gb is a 3rd gen ipod, 3rd gen can't charge through usb on pc's or macs. However if you have the firewire ac adapter(if not you can buy one) you can get a USB+Firewire cable(dock connector has 2 cables off of it) so that way you can attach the usb cord to your computer(both usb 2.0 and 1.1 work, 1.1 is just pretty slow) and you attach the firewire part of the cable to the ac adapter and plug that into the wall. This pic shows(on the left) what the cable looks like:
