I noticed that what seems to be the top of the line 64 bit processors and noticed that they have slower processing speeds. I was wondering if 64 bit processors are actually better then there counterparts despite having lower processing speeds?
Also, does Intel make 64 Bit processors, and if so, what are they called and how do they compare to AMD? |

Most all AMD processors now have a much lower clock speed than Intel's. My Athlon 64 4000 is actually only 2.4GHz. That's just how they are making things now, and the PR rating is just to draw people in seeing as many people still are interested in the biggest and best numbers.
Intel does have some sort of 64bit processor I do beleive. I think they are about the same as the Athlon, but I'm not all that sure. Maybe someone else can fill that part in.

Yup... Check out that Pi benchmark if you can find it... Someone here had a Pentium 4 3.2GHz overclocked to almost 4GHz and got Pi to 1 million spaces in 34 seconds. My 2.4GHz AMD did it in 35.
![]() Now of course, each processor has it's own stregths... Some benchmarks with the pents are pasts due to their high Front Side Bus... However, I think most are usally in favor of the AMDs

The reason that most of the cpus you looking at with 64 bit was lower speed was because they was athlon 64. AMD cpu took a very different theory on how to make there cpus better. Amd cpus does more in one clock cycle but has less clock cycles. While Intel does less in a clock cycle but has a lot more clock cycle. In the end they will roughly do the same amount of work. Quote:
