I need to backup my data, should i buy a external backup solution, or buy the hard drives and put them in a external case, any suggestions of brands etc would be helpful.
thanks

He's asking how he should obtain an external HDD and what brands to get.

I would buy the HDD and exclosure seperate. In my opinion, it's cheaper that way. Seagate is a really good brand for HDDs. If you have a lot of money you could make a 2.5" external HDD.

IMO, an enclosure as an enclosure.

You can run programs off of them depending on the programs. Some programs install system files on your main HDD so you won't be able to use those programs on a different PC but some programs are standalone so you can use them on any PC without installing anything.

Ok cool how do you know what programs will load them to the external? I'm plaining on getting a laptop soon ( either MacBook Pro or HP 6700T custom ) and want to put some files on there so it doesn't take all the space up on the laptop

Well usually it will say if it's standalone or not.
