Default video capture

i've been passed on a family members sony digital 8 handycam to capture the video from it on to the pc of my brothers wedding.

Been having issues with doing it though, tried a variety of software from pinnacle studio to ulead movie maker, most of them seem to just stop capturing after a couple of minutes. Ulead was the only one to capture it all but for some reason didnt take the sound off with it.

Its connected to the PC via USB cable as I dont have the s-video cable for it.

any ideas the best way to go about this?

Do you have a firewire output? that's better for transferring video.

not, outputs on the camera are usb, Svideo and dv out, i only have the USB connector.

I have tried an open source video convertor which again just stops after about 2 mins of video, the audio continues to be recorded but the video has stalled

which i dont have the wires for currently, i know that USB can send the signal but i need to find the right software to do it with.

Sony ask you to use their Pixela software to do it but I cant find anywhere to get hold of it, unless anyone else knows?
