Default video capture

i've been passed on a family members sony digital 8 handycam to capture the video from it on to the pc of my brothers wedding.

Been having issues with doing it though, tried a variety of software from pinnacle studio to ulead movie maker, most of them seem to just stop capturing after a couple of minutes. Ulead was the only one to capture it all but for some reason didnt take the sound off with it.

Its connected to the PC via USB cable as I dont have the s-video cable for it.

any ideas the best way to go about this?
