I have a Diamond Radeon HD 3870 video card. It has HDMI via a DVI converter (in other words, there is a DVI output, and the card came with an HDMI converter, which I plug into the DVI output).
The video card also has built in 5.1 channel sound, which theoratically, should be outputted via the HDMI. However therein lies my problem. I connected the HDMI cable to my monitor which has built in speakers. There is no sound via the HDMI cable. When I plug in a SEPARATE 3.5 mm cable from my sound card to the monitor, there IS sound. So I know that the speakers work. My question is how can the video card output sound via HDMI when the original output is DVI which only carries video? |
