Default ddr2 1200 on a 800mhz mobo work?

if i get a mobo that only supports ddr2 800mhz and buy sticks of ddr2 memory running at 1200mhz stock, would my mobo downclock the RAM to only 800mhz or would the memory not even run at all? if it downclocks the RAM, then would the timings tighten up a little? for example, THESE OCZ memory with THIS zotac mobo

Theoretically yes putting that ram into that motherboard will downclock it, but wouldn't it be better just to get a better motherboard or even just buying good 800mhz ram?

Like said above it would just back clock to 800. And yes you could probably get lower timming at 800. But I would get another board then a Zotac, as far as I know there just rebranded Saphire boards and video cards that run a Nvidia chip instead of a ATI/AMD chip. Think there both owned by PC Partner.

if it runs higher than 800mhz, then that means i'd have to OC the fsb right? that means the NB would OC, not the memory since it's rate at 1200mhz stock speed?

to even run that memory at a good 1:1 ratio you would need an FSB of 2400MHZ, is the speed really necessary since its not really gonna be used?
