Default Computer Won't Boot

Upon turning my computer on this morning, it froze and the screen went blank. This has happened every time I have turned it on, however with different results. For example the last time the screen turned into many lines similar to my desktop going diagonally accross the screen.

The numlock button on the keyboard also doesn't change colour.

I have checked the memory by running it off the 2 sticks induvidually. I have also has a linux distro running with no problems.

What is causing this?

P.S Lukily I was preparing to format yesterday so hopefully if this new distro i'm burning now works I will be ok.

Still I was wondering what wold be causing this?

Thanks

It's probably a bad HD (assuming you ran Linux off the CD) or a corrupted OS installation.
