Default system hang

doing my nut this one!

My system hangs every 30 seconds or so for a few seconds, basically in that time I cant do anything, it doesnt matter what program I am running, be it IE, Firefox, Gaming, Microsoft Word etc, always does the same. The mouse pointer can be moved but I cant interact with anything in any of the running programs.

I run Kaspersky internet security and have done a full system scan with both that and AVG free to check, neither have found anything that could pose a problem.

I am thinking it could possibly be a memory issue, I installed an extra 2gb about 6 weeks ago, all was fine until a few days ago.

any suggestions as to what could cause a problem like this?

no, kaspersky is the only one that runs on startup and in the system tray, I just use AVG as a backup from time to time in case kaspersky misses anything. It only runs when I prompt it too otherwise its not running at all

disconect the modem, so there is no internet access. go to msconfig and uncheck everything. restart computer, see if problem is resolved. make a note of what was checked, so you can put the checks back, when finished
