Aragones is riding his luck massively!
I predicted a win but I thought the russians would give them much more of a game, Arshavin, a messiah to many after his last couple of matches, seemed to have taken a sabbatical tonight as I cant recall having seen him on the pitch. Spain had an early blow with Villa going off injured and it looks like he could be missing for the final too, not a good omen. His replacement however has had a fantastic tournament, without even managing to start a properly competative game yet. Fabregas brought a superb stability to the team tonight and was man of the match for me. Torres was running the russian defence ragged once again but seemed to have left his shooting boots at home. It took a while for the deadlock to be broken but it was a lovely strike from Xavi after a ball through from Fabregas that gave them the edge. Xavi seemed to appear from absolutely no where to poke it home and give Spain a much deserved lead. then came in insanity of Aragones, now bear with me because I know it paid off but it could have cost them dearly. With his team holding a marginal lead at 1-0 he takes off Torres and Xavi to bring on Guiza and Alonso I honestly couldnt believe it, xavi for Alonso was acceptable, fair swap there, but Torres? I was baffled. Sure Guiza went on to score but with your current top forward off the field injured, who in their right mind then goes on to substitute off arguably one of the best strikers around over the last 12 months. Torres would have scored in the end and Guiza is nowhere near that quality. It was only through a lack of quality from Russia that this decision didnt backfire on him massively in my opinion. I sincerely hope that its not a stupid decision like that which costs Spain the title in the end. But I digress, the game continued and Spain were absolutely bossing the midfield battle, fabregas being the key player within, one minute playmaker, the next minute defender. A lovely ball over the top gave Guiza his chance, still with a lot of work to do he finishes off well with a deft chip over the keeper. Lock, stock, its all sewn up, and still there was time for David Silva (god I hope Liverpool sign him up this season) to put a cherry on the cake with a well worked goal in the final stages of the match. So on to the final match on Sunday, Spain V Germany it will be, Spain have the flair, the attack and the beautiful football. Germany as individuals are honestly very average but as a team they are good enough to beat anyone in the world on their day. Germany efficiency V Spanish Flair, who will win, my money is on Germany but I would personally love it to be the spanish that succeed, too often they have failed when they looked like they had the best team around, hopefully Sunday will see them exorcise the demons that have plagued them for so long Viva Espania!

If Spain win this, I'm gonna be seriously pissed off, I've put money on them to win every major tournament for the last 20 years! After the last World Cup, I vowed never to back them again, grr!!

With Villa injured and will be missing the final, Spain definitely lose some of their attacking edge. However, I am sure Torres and Fabregas will be able to whip up something good in the end.
I am rooting for Germany though, not sure why. Just a matter of preference I guess. Looking at the skill level of both team and the number of star players that each team has, this final game sure looks too good to miss. We'll see how the game goes.

So there we have it, Spain are the new european champions and its much deserved. They won every game they played through the tourney and were without doubt the best team on the night tonight.
I've backed Germany all the way so far but I was made up to see Liverpools Fernando Torres score the winner in the end. Aragones showed his faults again though by for some reason taking him off whilst they protected a 1-0 lead. Made up he's leaving the national team as he's a liability in my eyes. The team won this tourney for him, the manager was a muppet. Great thing about the spain squad is that the majority of them are all so young and if they keep playing well then they must start the 2010 world cup as favourites. Best thing for me though is that I had £5 @ 15/1 on Villa as the tournaments top scorer so just made myself a nice £80 out of that. Roll on the new season, Viva Espania

Viva Espania! they deserve it. Everything was amazing but I didnt like the Italian referee when he gave ballack(he sucks) and Iker Casillas yellow cards. It really made me angry. But the finally Spain wins and I forgot everything. I would like to be in Barcelona tonight!
