Exclamation HELP!!:Privacy

Hi i have a laptop and i share an internet connection with my family but whenever one member of my family goes to sleep he/she puts the internet off, long story, i cannot just ask he/she to not do that. I would appreciate it if someone could tell me how to set up my own internet connection! By the way i have a MAC LAPTOP WITH LEOPARD SOFTWARE
Thanks!

What exactly are you trying to accomplish? If they are "Killing the router" there is nothing you can do. I would talk to your family rather than go around what they are doing.

Sounds like you're not supposed to be using the internet... am i right?
Edit there's nothing you can really do anyway, they probably have access to the router passworded, so you're SOL.

I'm looking for something that will send a command to my modem to turn on and off so I don't have to go upstairs to turn it off at night.

why not just leave it on full stop???? Is it because your connection is unprotected??? if so password protect it.
