Ok, I'm back on the family computer cause mines got problems again. I wanted to get rid of ubuntu and switch to another linux distro, and this is probably how i messed it up. instead of un-installing it another way, i just used a gparted live-cd to delete the partition ubuntu was on and delete the swap partition, so all i would have was 75gb of xp and a bunch of free-space. BUT, then i restarted the comp. with the live-cd(which i know normally works) and then it would past the bios splash screen as norml and say boot form cd: like normal. but every time it would try to boot from cd, it would just restart the pc again and start all-over in an infinite cycle of failure.
so i tried booting without the cd to get into xp an d ask you guys for help, but then it tries to, load GRUB and it says "ERROR 22" and then freezes. so, now my pc is totally un-capable of booting from cd or hdd, and the only hing i havn't tried is live usb, but i doubt that would work(but then again, who knows? hopefully you all. ). Can anyone help me out? I think i have to somehow remove the remnants of grub and restore the windows bootloader, or re-install ubuntu, and at the same time, GRUB. Can anyone help please?

When you deleted the Ubuntu partition, you deleted GRUB. GRUB is a bootloader that overwrites XP's MBR. Take your Windows CD and boot to it. Opt for the Repair option, and follow this: http://sourceforge.net/project/showf...kage_id=173828 (Im lazy and don't feel like typing)

sorry to make you type more, but i tried the xp disc, still can't boot from cd, and still can't boot from hdd. i know that it SHOULD delete GRUB when i delete the ubuntu partitions, BUT it didn't. and like i said, i can't boot from cd, haven't tried usb, and can't boot from hdd. when it tries to boot from hdd, it says GRUB loading like before, then it says ERROR 22. SO, my computer is rendered unable to boot in all ATTEMPTED ways, and i have never been able to get any version of linux on my flash-drive before. But, i have an extra hdd lying around, can i use that to help out this problem?

i could, but my mom's paranoid that if i open up this pc, i'll break it, so i can never open up the family pc, ever. instead, can i use the extra hdd i have, and re-install windows on it without activating it yet, then hook-up my current hdd as a second, back-up all files, then format it?

well, i sort-of combined imsati's, spikebuck's, and my idea's together and fixed it(barely!). i turned my current hdd into the slave, made my extra blank hdd master, and then fixed the mbr. BUT, all that did is allowed me to boot from cd when i only had the 200gb installed, so then i fixed the mbr and the boot sequence on xp in the repair console, and voila, it works! in the words of the monk voice inside my head, "May many thanks be bestowed upon thee in thoughs time of need."
