so, I've successfully wired/setup my router to my desktop. The internet works fine on the desktop. On my laptop, I am connected to the wireless Network i created, but the status says "acquiring network address" and does not change. Signal strength is excellent and everything looks fine, but no internet. Any suggestions? thanks!

Have you tried turning off the wireless adapter and turning it back on, this can be done via an external switch on some notebooks. It can also be done via network and sharing center or network connections under your control pannel. Either right click the wireless connection and hit repair, or click disable, wait for it to turn off then right click again and hit enable.
You could also try to release and renew your ip address via the command prompt if you're comfortable trying that. You can do this by typing ipconfig -release, then type ipconfig -renew.
