I want to upgrade the memory on my Dell Dimension 8400.
I want to utilize all four DIMM slots available. My current memory is 512MB which I want to move them from the one and two slots to the three and four slots. I was going to purchase a kit 2x 1GB for the one and two slots. This is what I want: http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/Produc...tCode=85016-16 My CRU is currently at 3.2oGHz, with the addition of the Corsair memory what will be my overall GHz as the max for this unit is 4.096GHz. |

That RAM should work fine, it will be downclocked if you mix it with your current memory though.

That's also clocked up performance memory which could be a problem for the Dell. I would simply run the pair of 1gb dimms if you go with those. Otherwise you would be mixing Dell's value ram with performance memory being a different type likely causing problems.

I think I'm confusing myself in the aspects of memory. I was leary with the mix and match of dells value memory with corsairs performance memory. So I don't think I will run both.
So, if I were to buy two Corsair kits I would have 4 GB (not using the Dell memory.) My clock speed would be??? Can I do that? Basically I want to max this thing out... that is get the maximum performance out of it. Now the spec sheet shows the Corsairs were tested at 1.9v. My motherboard currently provides 1.8v will that become a overheat problem? My guess is "NO". I use this unit for gaming as I think my graphics card might still be plenty fast enough. It was top end when I purchased the unit yesterday. Seems like yesterday! ![]() http://www.nvidia.com/page/geforce_6800.html By the way graphics cards are even more confusing! Thank you for the answers and help you have provided! Last edited by Renard; 06-18-2008 at 01:25 PM. |

The memory your getting is DDR2 667. The board has a max of DDR2 533 so it will just back clock it to DDR2 533. So the memory will be running at 266/533MHZ.

By the way would you go with 4GB of the Corsair? Or this? http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820145527 Last edited by Renard; 06-18-2008 at 03:01 PM. |

Either would be ok, the first set probable has better timming plus heatshields just for 9 bucks more. On a dell though the boards are alittle more buggie about voltage a timming so the bottom link might be alittle more user friendly with the board.

The board will read upto 4 gbs. But if your running XP it will only recognize around alittle over 3gbs.
