Default Back to XP (For now)

I reformatted last night and went from Vista Ultimate 64 back to XP Pro 32 just to do it because I was bored. My Vista Ultimate was using 1 GB or more of RAM at idle. Check the screen shot out below to see what XP used.

Please understand, this is not a bash Vista post or anything because I really like Vista. I just forgot how much less RAM XP uses versus Vista. I know Vista uses more because it's doing more.

I'll go back to Vista again soon but just wanted to use XP for a bit. I ask myself.....why not get an extra HDD and have both? I'm an idiot!

While your picking up that extra HDD grab 2GB more ram, then 1GB idle is nothing.

I like vista but, XP sure does run with less ram usage no doubt. I dont deny it but, I still think I prefer the looks of vista. Dont forget XP uses PageFile too.

Vista is so much better, but I know that you aren't saying otherwise. You only have 27 processes running, whereas Vista usually has 55-60 running. Sure it uses more resources, but so does anything else that's new.

He is right but there's a problem.
vista and xp have complety different drivers
so when you dual boot the os will crash BUT you can make your own instalation DVD with the xp/vista vista drivers and hey presto you have a working dual boot computer
Materials
  • nLite(free)
  • Vista installation cd
  • ALL!!! the vista drivers and hotfixs for your model
Method
  1. Install then run nLite
  2. When you get to this screen insert your vista disc and browse to it
  3. Then select the option you want and keep going and follow the prompt
If read the article below
http://www.nliteos.com/guides.html
post if there are problems

LOL, I'm back on Vista today! Went ahead and thought I'd give Vista Ultimate 32 bit a try. So that's three different operating systems within 3-days.

1) Started with Vista Ultimate 64-bit
2) Went back to XP Pro 32-bit
3) Now I've got Vista Ultimate 32-bit on here

Now I have a decision to make....which one do I like the most? I've got too much time on my hands I guess!!!
