Default what is DRM?

i have an iphone but was going to get a zune for trips and such because the battery is better for movies, but i'm reading about this drm thing which i don't understand. does zune play any mp3 or movie file? i read something about zune checks to see if each song has drm and if it does it will allow it, otherwise no. i don't really understand what that means. i have some really old mp3s, from when mp3s first came out and they were all free. i doubt seriously they are going to have any type of drm. anybody know what this means? i am looking at a used 30gb version. thanks.

Hey. DRM is Digital Rights Management. It has to with songs/movies that you've purchased. The songs that you ripped from your own CD's won't have DRM. So, you don't have to worry about those, just the ones that you bought, or possibly- the ones you got free.

DRM means if you purchased it from an online source such as walmarts music bit, napster, itunes, and sony, you wont be able to play the song. However, anything you download from torrents, or purchased from other stores such as emusic will play (I know, its messed up).

There are several ways to turn off DRM from the zune, and get your music onto the device in other ways (I havnt tried them, all my music works). But I dont know if you can talk about that here.

Final note, I have the zune 80 and its a pretty great device. Which are you planning on getting?

i'm planning on getting the 30gb version. the ipod doesn't do the drm thing, does it? that makes no sense that PURCHASED songs you cannot play. why the hell would they do that? i will look into zune hacks and find a way to not have to mess with that stuff. i shouldn't have a problem, but might as well get rid of it just because i think that's a load of garbage.

so you like your zune? had an ipod before? i have heard good things. i've always owned the ipods, and i love my iphone, but it's nice to have a longer-lasting battery to watch a movie on a flight or something.

Completely untrue. DRM is not so you can't play music, it's to restrict what you do with it. For instance, DRM from music download sites usually have a restriction that says you can only move it between 2-4 computers, it can only be burned 5 times, or it will no longer be playable in 30 days (usually for videos).

Default Drm

Digital rights management (DRM) is an umbrella term that refers to access control technologies used by publishers and copyright holders to limit usage of digital media or devices.
If you have purchased some music files from online music store like iTunes, and want to play on your portable devices, such as cell phone, MP3 player,Sony PSP etc,how to realize it?
TuneClone will convert music files in the playlist to MP3、WMV or other formats automatically.
