32 bit & 64 bit

hey i was talking 2 my friend today and he said that if you are using 32bit windows the max ram/memory you can have is 3gigs, & that if you want more than 3 gigs of ram you need to use windows 64bit is this true?

That is correct! I have windows vista ultimate 32bit and i have 4gbs but it only recognizes 3.3Gbs

No, you will probably get around 3.5 gigs if you run 4 gigs. But if you wanted to run 8 gigs then you would need a 64 bit OS.
