I did something pretty stupid today, which was connect a new hardrive into the slave of my DVD's ribbon. Not sure why I did it, but I think that it shorted my mobo. As I boot the computer, it will turn on, then off, then on again and constantly do this process and the times it turns on lengthens each time. If there's anything that you could recommend me to try to do that does not include buying a new motherboard, let me know. Thanks in advance.
NEW PROBLEM: Okay, now I took out the battery for the BIOS on the mobo, and now the computer will reboot itself when I boot it up. So the screen will show the desktop and everything, and the computer will work just fine, until a random point where I think I am using up more RAM than usual. Before, I have never had this problem when using my computer. Any suggestions on how I should approach this? Thanks in advance. that should not have done that... anyway try this:
first disconect the power. next inside your computer, look for a silver button batery on the motherboard. take the battery out for 1 min. place it back in and plug in the power. try to turn it on again

If you have 2 drives on the cable did you set the DVD as master and the harddrive as slave buy the jumpers on the drives. If you have 2 drives on 1 cable they have to be set as master and slave.

Okay, I just did the battery thing and now the computer will turn on and have power and everything, but the screen is totally blank. So I have power but the computer won't boot, I guess I'm gonna have to get another mobo...

If you have the harddrive set as master and the DVD set to slave, you might need to go into the bios and set your main OS harddrive to 1st. on the boot order.

You did put the battery back in right? When you say using more ram you mean starts getting slow? Did you unhook the drive you added to see if it will boot normal? And when it was hooked up, the DVD drive was at the end with the jumper set to master and the harddrive in the middle and the jumper set slave? Is your main harddrive a IDE or Sata?
