How to keep intruders out?

Hi, I've recently considered buying a website from GoDaddy. I need to know how to keep intruders (hackers) out, or atleast how to keep my website heavily secure. Also, what methods should I take to prevent intruders from SQL-injecting my databases and pages? Is there some type of syntax or do I need to modify setting on my GoDaddy account? Any helpful tips are appreciated.

Keep you scripts up to date at all time.
