This is very intriguing given I work at a radio station I may have to do some research.

The ham bands are licensed stations That can communicate around the world.
Different meter bands like 160, 80, 40, 20 , 10 ect. can reach around the world at different times of the day or night. The signals bounce off the ionosphere to get around the world. 160 meter band is the frequency just above the am radio you have in your car or home. It works best at night for distance (dx) work.
There are many modes you can use. CW (morse code) SSB (microphone) and several digital modes you can run with the sound card on your computer.

It is for those who took the time to get a license to get away from the idiots on the cb band.

I use to be in with this once. Started with CB then purchased a SSB Cobra that worked the 11 metre band, of course it was not legal in the UK to use it . plus it was amplified from the legal 4 watts to 250 watts. I use to find the highest hill around and talk to friends up to 200 miles but only if the channel was clear. At times atmospheric conditions allowed overseas contact but the channels were in use by many people trying to "CQ CQ DX".
Anyone on legal CB use to be wiped out with channel interference, and the next step for a lot of operators was to gain there licence for Ham radio.

How can you operate every band when your license only permits you to use 6m, 2m, and 70cm?

Yea but it was progression, many moved on to Amateur Radio
As you know yourself 40 channels just wasn't enough for everyone so SSB gave us a few more, then that wasn't enough because everyone tried to outdo one another. The only course then was to become legal.

MyCattMaxx, I'm from Dubai not Saudi Arabia.
Dubai is in the United Arab Emirates(UAE).
