Default where to buy a new macbook?

Im looking for a Macbook to use in college and I have noticed a huge difference in pricing on the main website compared to that of others (macmall, etc.) Basically my concern is I dont want to buy one off of another website and it being an old version or something like that. How can I be sure to get the newest version of the laptop but also order it off of something besides the mac website? Also, on kind of an unrelated note... I was thinking of getting 4 gbs of ram, is that overkill for a mac considering the fact that i wont be doing any gaming or anything like that?

4gb ram is not overkill, and you can get 4gb off newegg.com for about $80. You would save hundreds of dollars.

You can buy it from the Apple site, and if you tell them you are in college they will give you a discount. I believe you can get a MacBook for as low as $750 or so.

You're right, it's been a while since I checked and I guess they lowered the discount, last I remembered they gave a few hundred dollars off.
