Well I just bought this computer with a Biostar M7NCG motherboard and a 1.5 Duron processor
It is not running at all and not recognizing IDE drives or hard drives. At first it didn't run at all, no video, no beeping....then I removed one memory stick and reinstalled it and WHAM I have video.....then it won't recognize IDE dvd rom drive, CD-RW or HDD It looks like it is cutting power to the drives so how because right when the computer is booting up (before the biostart screen) the drive pop out and in but after, they don't move at all and i tested the power cables with a voltage meter and they check out Is there some bio setting that I need to set for the front side bus? Does the memory speed need to match the processor? I will post details about the memory stick as soon as I get back from work.....and information about the processor Thanks Alan |

Well according to my memory sticks, they are all PC3200.....but this motherboard only supports up to PC2700....
Is PC3200 suppose to be downward compatible? I have two 512MB Kingston chips and one (Advanced Modules)??? 1GB stick....i might just try it with the 2 512MB kingstons |

Yes DDR memory is down/backward compatible. You may actually have two problems, bad stick(s) AND a weak PSU. How many HDs does it have? If it's got several, plug the extra ones out, and you may also want to plug all optical drives out (i.e. only start the comp with the HDD with OS on it.) If that does the trick, you've probably got a weak/faulty PSU (or problems with the HDs). If not, there might be something wrong with the mobo, as it's quite unlikely that memory problems interfere with HDDs or the other way around, unless you have a problem with both.

Do you have the master and slave jumpers set right on the drives? Are you sure the IDE cables are good? Try reseting the bios.

There should be BIOS settings for hard drive interface selection. My Biostar board enables me to select SATA or IDE or both. Look in "Integrated Peripherals" in your BIOS setup menu.

: bashes head against wall:
I didn't see in the original post that there were no SATA ports. Methinks I'm slipping and need to take a break from CF.
