Yes Lizards/iguanas/chamelions are all cool, but... you have to remember that all reptiles carry the potential of samonella!! - just something to be wary of especially if you have children around!

i only use distilled water to top off my tank, but i could use my tap water, it comes from a well with no chlorine
im thinking about getting a 65 gallon tank soon and putting a pair of discus in there

You can use tap water to top off your tank all day long, just make sure you use a dechlorinator.
I personally do 50% water changes every 2 weeks, because I usually keep my tanks slightly overstocked. The bacteria really doesn't live in the water, its mostly in the filter, then a little bit on the ornaments and gravel/sand. So you don't have to worry about messing up your cycle. The only concern would be the drastic change in temperature, but just try to get the tap water as close as possible to the tank temp and you'll be fine. They can withstand a 4-5 degree change fairly well. (most species that is) Also if you have a group of cory catfish and the temperature drops a few degrees, it has been known to initiate spawning. |

Another little tip for newbies to fish keeping is don't have the tank in direct sunlight as this will not only possibly heat the tank, but will promote algae growth and you will be cleaning the glass VERY often!!(there's only so much algae a clown loach can munch lol)

Use the same water and gravel from the old tank into the new tank would be a GOOD idea
