Default how easy is laptop memory to install

Do I just plug it in. I know i have to make sure its the same. I think right now I got 2 512 677DDR2 if that sounds right. I want to upgrade to 2 gigs. Im consistently pushing 80 or so percent just running FF3 and google desktop and itunes.

Any recommendations on cheap memory. Does brand or price matter, and could i buy a gig first and another gig later. ie, go from 1 to 1.5 to 2 gigs.

Thanks, Jason
